To me the fact that you have a blade made of D2 Steel vs. AUS 6 stainless or Chrome Vanadium means the blade can withstand more abuse. I bought a K-Bar D2 and that thing is one tough customer. That makes it worth it to me.

Yes, and very impressive, but how often do you sharpen it? And remember wood is ALOT softer then steel. Try using that for a pry-bar or cutting through bone with it.

Pry bar? Yep....within it's limitations of course. ( I have better knives for that )

Ooops.. forgot to answer. Fairly often. Not a big deal to me. I find sharpening to be relaxing, freehand with a simple DC-4 pocket stone.

The D2 steel will hold up better to torsional stress and shear. I have no doubt you would do fine with your knife you have pictured dayhiker, for average every day use. From what I understand of metallurgy the D2 will withstand real abuse a lot better. It also holds an edge longer in my experience.

Yep.... I sure do. I am a bushcrafter/ survivalist/ woodsbum. But I don't baby my knives,they earn their keep or they are gone.

dayhiker knows his knives. I have a Fallkniven F1, and its a great knife. I've been thinking about getting an S1, but got a BRKT Bravo-1 instead (lots of 1's here). For fixed baldes its hard to beat the Fallkniven, and BRKT stuff.

What I mean is, I prefer to eek out just a tad bit beyond beyond it's structural design...ie.. designers usually shortchange themselves on what their product can really do. In my opinion it saves them the trouble of claims of people who expect too much.

Myself I would never claim a design failure of my own abuse.

Always, but of course at my own risk. I would never make a warranty claim knowing I went beyond the risk.

Well when you are 10 miles off trail....fire up that Stihl.... As a former Line Clearance worker (I won't name the company) I prefer Husqvarna.
