I have been trying out some of the pyrodex pellets in my 58 and have noticed the gun especially the barrel getting much hotter than normal and sparks sometimes shooting out the end, would probably look pretty cool at night. These are pellets made 44-45 cal pistols 30gr and I would think would have been tested before marketing them. I am thinking some chunks of the pellets are entering the barrel not fully incinerated, other then that they work pretty good, no ignition problems, fast to load, are kinda expensive, Has any one else that uses them had any similar experiences.

ive noticed sparks when using them in a rifle also so in my opinion they dont burn as completly as powder would im surprised you are getting decent ignition with them with a cap.

I found I had to ram the ball down hard in order to crush the pellet to get ignition which was still irregular in my '58.. They seemed hotter (more recoil) than 30gr of BP.

I watched a guy shoot who was using those pellets. Almost every other shot, chunks of still burning pellet would go down range and continue to burn or smoke on the ground. I wouldn't use them if someone gave them to me. Too much of a fire hazard in my opinion.:what:

I do have to admit, it was a pretty cool effect.

Thats what it is then burning chunks coming out the barrel, it also explains why the barrel gets so hot and I have also noticed stronger recoil when I use them and suspect air pockets in the chamber from the pellets not fully crushed causing more pressure in the chamber, I wondered about that happening as the pellets have a hole in the middle. Thanks for the response. I have fired about 150 rounds of them with no miss-fires, I only use them for extra shots at the range as I bring pre loaded cylinders, make my own cartridges using ultra light cig papers, and also loose powder at the range usually fire off around 120-130 rounds when I go also switch back a forth between 777 and pyrodex the real stuff is hard to get around here.
