I am having trouble with my USP .40 cal.

Ammo is handloaded lead FP 180 grain over 5.7 grains of bullseye. The recoil seems weak, it ejects the empty but stovepipes the next round out of tha mag. The next round is stripped from the mag and sticks out of the top of the slide bullet first.

Any suggestions?

works like a charm with factory ammo, did not see where the empties landed.

Would appreciate anyonme sharing your Bullseye .40 cal recipe for the 180 grain pill.

Usually this is because the magazine loses control of the round and either it almost ejects a loaded round or mag doesn't get the cartridge up into position in time and the slide catches the cartridge in the extraction groove instead of the base.

Do you mysteriously find loaded rounds on the ground after you shoot factory ammo?

Could be your reload OAL is a bit too long and they are binding in the mag or something wrong with your sizing causing them to bind on the way up. Or could be the recoil impulse is too quick for the mag spring to get the rounds up into position. If the slide doesn't lock back, maybe they are too weak and the slide is not always getting behind the cartridge base.

Normally I'd suspect the mag spring was weak but if its OK with factory ammo and not ejecting loaded rounds I guess your reloads are the issue.

It certainly sounds like an ammo issue. On another note, I notice you are loading lead FP. All HK USP's with the exception of the very early models, pre November 1994, have barrels with Polygonal rifling. Cast bullets are not recommended in polygonal barrels due to excessive lead build up resulting in excessive pressures. There is quite a bit written about this here on the internet.
