I bought a used J-frame (650) that needed some work and to have something to fiddle with and as a learning experience. I knew it was not in good shape but here are some things I found.
- Top and bottom surfaces of the barrel are not machined parallel along the bore axis making it "appear" that the extractor rod is not parallel to the bore centerline.
- Barrel end face is not square to the bore centerline.
- With cylinder shake eliminated, cyln to barrel gap is .007 even with the yoke as far forward as the frame will allow. I can get it closer but only at the expense of cyln shake.
- Flawed finish in areas

Good points:
- The yoke is in alignment and everything lines up
- The action is quite good and it shoots ok with fixed sites.

I have read about some quality issues with this vintage, but for all of you with more experience does this sound typical. Or is this just a bad example.
