Question: 7mm RM workup

Bedding isn't overly difficult, just remember to follow the rules about tape and release agents. The last thing you want is the barreled action epoxied into the stock. I used several light coats of Johnsons Paste Wax on mine and all but one came right out. The one came out, I just had forgotten to coat the longer replacement action screws and it sure gave me a scare for sure. A good smack with a rubber hammer released them real quick.

If you have a dremmel tool it makes cleaning out around the mag well and action pretty quick and easy, just go slow and remove it a little at a time.

Trigger's, while I have done a couple myself, I have had all aftermarket ones installed by a gunsmith. The Jewell's I had installed are set down pretty tight and I didn't want to be screwing around with them with no way to check them. With those you don't touch the trigger until your ready for the rifle to fire. They are a crisp 2#, but they feel WAY less when your laying a big ol tater on them.

If you DO work on your trigger it will quickly show in your groups. First they will open up, but once you get accustomed to the lighter pull they will shrink right back down.

Good Luck hope this helps.

I've tried IMR 4350 with various bullets in 2 different 7mm RM rifles. That powder did not produce the most accurate results. R22, IMR 4831, H4831, and IMR 7828 seem to give me the best results. The best loads were 1/2 to 1 grn from the maximum charge. I have a load using Hornady 139 SSTs using H4831. In my rifle it does 1/2" at 200 yds. But every rifle is an individual. I just have better results with the slower powders in this caliber. As an aside Sierra's accuracy load for a 140 grn bullet uses Retumbo.

Concentricity is something else altogether. It will improve your ammo and results. I recently went down that road. Concentricity gauges, micrometers, bushing dies.... oh my! But I'm having a ball at it and learning.

As a further aside IMR 7828 was the powder Remington used when the 7mm RM was introduced. I just worked up a load using a 140 Sierra GK and 65.5 grains of powder. Seated to 3.290 got me an inch at 100 yds. Playing with COAL and stopping at .010 off the lands got me 1/4 at 100 yds.

Good luck and have fun with it.

Yeah, my daughters are visiting the grandparents over the next few days, and I'm going to do another workup of IMR4350 going from 60-63 in .5 increments and see if I get different results this time. Who knows, since I set the bullet closer to the lands, maybe I'll get better results. It'll be fun trying though.

My next full workup is going to be with some IMR7828 and see how that works. I have two different bullets I want to try with it at this time. The 139 BTSP, and the 154 RN.

Workup results from tweaking my IMR4350 57gr load. All shot at 100 yards, all 5-shot groups.
