I'm thinking about getting a Springfield 1911. Yes, another 'Loaded vs. RO' thread essentially.

I can't decide which gun I want because I'm not sure what sights to go with. Part of me thinks the adjustable target sights on the RO (and the SS 'target' version of the Loaded) would be beneficial as this will mostly be a range gun. But then again, I really like the idea of night sights on the parkerized Loaded version. However, if I don't like how the sights operate on the Loaded, then I'm stuck with them.

So I guess I'm curious how they are going to both look regarding the sight picture and how accurate they are going to be with the POA/POI. If I got the target sights they can obviously be adjusted to my liking. Can anyone comment on this difference? I would prefer not to need to buy add-ons for the 1911, at least right away, so I would prefer not to hear 'buy new sights if you aren't happy'. I know that's an option but I want to try to stay away from that option if I can.

Fixed sights never work very well for me at ranges beyond 20-30 feet. Except for short range self defense guns, I prefer adjustable sights.

Actually changing sights on a 1911 isn't beyond home gunsmithing/tinkering. It's a little more involved if the front sight is staked on, but it still isn't difficult...

Or buy thr adjustable.

I know it's not terribly difficult, it's just extra money. I don't want to put more money into sights when there are already sights on the gun. I know more people than not customize their guns, but that's just not for me. And if I go that route, I have to buy a sight tool, which nice ones are 100-150+, which is way more money than I want to spend. Or else have a gunsmith do it, and pay him...once again, I'm not trying to replace the sights

IMHO, fixed sights belong on a 'concealed' carry gun. No reason not to get adjustable sights if it will never see a concealment holster. I love my new Range Officer and it is serving well as more of a general purpose pistol. It's extremely accurate and only needed a magwell and grips. Which, by chance, also ridded it of the internal lock and overly heavy mainspring.

Well, I live in anti-Illinois so I doubt I will ever see conceal carry :( It's gaining momentum, but who knows if it will actually pass. I have my doubts. So I certainly wouldn't be buying it for a conceal gun.
