I'm sure everyone knows what the Medusa is. Just in case, I'll sum it up. A revolver that can fire practically any bullet in the .357/.38/9mm range.

My question is whether this could be repeated with a larger chambered revolver, that can shoot rimmed and rimless ammunition as long as the caliber is the same.

If this were to be made, what calibers could be included in the .45 range?

in 44 there is:

44 Russian
44 Colt
44 5special
44 mag
44 auto mag
44 auto rim

in 45, you have

45 Cowboy
45 Schofield
45 Colt
45 acp
45 auto rim

and the various Casuall calibers

This is not a complete list by all means but the most I can think of at this early time and at my age. CRS syndrome, for sure :)

44s

There is another rimless 44, the 44 Jaguar. It's a wildcat formed by taking a 44 Magnum case, putting it in a lathe and turning off the rim and adding an extractor groove. It was intended for use in pin shooting where fast reloading with moon clips is desirable in a revolver with some whallop. Ballistic capability is identical to the 44 Magnum. For pin shooting they use a hollow point with a saw toothed edge, I don't know how hot they load it. When I saw it, it was in a S&W M29 modified to take the moon clips.

I didn't see it in the above gun, but There is a trick by which only part of the rear of the cylinder is cut away for the moon clips leaving part of it to head space the rimmed cartridge. This would probably work with the 44 Jaguar and the 44 Auto Mag. The 44 Auto Mag is loaded to levels slightly under the 44 Magnum.

Also, in the 44 category don't forget the 445 SuperMag, and also several obsolete 44 revolver cartridges.

The medusa doesn't need moon clips, it uses a mechanism that pushes rimmed ammo out and holds rimless ammo in. All it needs is to be able to handle the pressures and differences in bullet diameter, which it accomplishes by using a high strength frame.

I want to know if it can be done in .44 and .45.
