So I am thinking about taking the plunge into 1911 country. I went to my local range/dealer, and rented a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. I really liked it, and shot it well. The problem is out of 100 rounds shot 2 jammed :what: . Is this common for a 1911, or this brand? I thought maybe since its a range gun and is used and abused this may be a factor. Also I shot cheap range rounds "Independance". What is a good brand for a 1911? Please share your history with these guns.

Remember the punishment & abuse a rental gun goes through on a daily basis. They get dropped, mishandled and made to shoot shop reloads of questionable quality. THen to top it off, probably not cleaned well.
The Mil Spec SA I had was 100% reliable, dependable and had acceptable accuracy!
Get that Mil Spec & don't worry! ;)

Dirty and/or rough breech face and an untuned extractor...trivial fix for either...polishing the ramp is almost never needed...most FTF and FTE issues are mag and extractor related.
