A friend that is new to reloading ask me my opinion on this, and I have no idea as I have never had any ammo that has a primer crimped in. Anyway, he apparently got a bunch of brass that when he reprimed, he noticed the primers were harder to seat, but he got all of them but one seated fine. He asked me what was going on. I took a look at them and it's obvious that the primer pockets had a crimp on it that he didn't remove. So his question was, since the primers visually look fine from the outside and did go in even though the pockets are crimped, are these safe to load up and fire? Also can he expect similar accuracy? He is trying to work up a load, so he is wondering if he can still use this brass for that? I told him I have no idea as I have never reloaded brass that has a crimped primer pocket or really cared to.

There is a chance he'll have some duds, but there's no way to know for sure. I'd use them for plinkers, and next time remove the crimps.

The primers need to be seated flush to .005" below the case head. They should fire ok. I have crushed a few in my day to get the primer to seat fully, they still fire.
