i am looking to buy a few more 10-round mags for my sig p229 in 9mm.

searching for that exact description makes this item hard to find as well as expensive ($40). however, some sites lead me to believe that the p229 9mm mag is actually the same as the p228 9mm mag in which case they are much easier to find and half the price.

could somebody please confirm that the sig p228 and p229 mags in 9mm are in fact one and the same?

If you have a Sig P229 9mm, you can use 228 magazines, and even some 226 9mm magazines, though they will stick out the bottom a little bit. Make sure you get ones advertised as "factory" or "mec-gar." anything else is junk.

Too bad you don't have the .40S&W. I have a pair of 10-round 229 magazines I'd be willing to unload pretty cheap.

You might also want to look a the 13 round 9mm magazines. (12 round in .40 S&W) These are the magazines the guns were designed to use before the Clinton ban limited them to 10 rounds.

I'll second what vex said about using only factory or Mec-Gar.

Yes, P228 and P229 use the same magazine, both reduced (10) and standard (13) capacity. Same for MecGar after market (15-rd) mags. The 10-rd magazine for the P226 would also work in your P229. It's only when you get to standard capacity (15-rd) magazines that they P226 mag extends beyond the bottom of the grip on the P228/9.

thanx for the feedback. i'm getting pretty confused because i read conflicting information about which mags work with which model, plus they are not that easy to find.

a lot of places online that i checked out either don't even carry the 10-rd version or are sold out.

cdnn has various mags, they carry the 229 in .40 or the 226 in 9 for a decent price.

are the mags really that versatile that the 229 .40/.357 mags properly hold and feed the 9 and that the 226 10-rd mags fit the 229? i'd like to use the gun for a competition next month and reliability is important.

Yes and Yes. I use 10 round 229 mags that are marked 40/357 with 9mm ammo in a 228 and a 9mm 229 every time I go to the range. I have never had a mag related problem.
The 226 mags work but stick out of the grip some and I don't like that. Personal preference only.

Got to the buy/sell/trade accessories forum here on THR and make a thread stating what you want to buy. Make sure you put your state in the title as per forum rules.

Somebody here will no doubt hook you up.
