Question about roundball size

I discovered I have used all my .490 round balls in my ball mill, and they are now around .485. Reckon I could use two patches and still be reasonably accurate out to 50 yards or so? My rifle is an old T/C Hawken .50 caliber.

I hope to find out tomorrow, just thought I'd ask tonight.

Yes, or one thicker patch, like pillow ticking, or light canvas like jeans material. You'll be surprised at how much easier it is to load, and the accuracy loss isn't really seen until 75-100 yards.

i have shot .454s with my .50 rifle using a thick patch and haven't had any problems. with a load of FFFG they really shoot well! haven't grouped them on paper but I'll do that sometime and post the results.

BEFORE you give up if that above patching materials don't do the trick, try using some Chamois that you can pick up a the local auto parts shop for car washing. Just an option.

isn't chamois just thin soft leather? kinda like suede?

real chamois is a leather, but most of what you're going to find is synthetic.
