Hi All,

Well, I thought I'd reached the fountain of youth. I thought my vision had been restored to its former clearness. Well........ actually, I have to say, it was quite a bit better. I could definitely see the rear and front sight picture much more clearly. The target remains a little fuzzy, but hell it was always more than a little fuzzy. I have to admitt it was better. Even the target.... a little. Being ableto adjust the aperature to what your eyes and conditions need is much better than the Lyman single aperature sight, at least for me.

It takes a minute or two to realize how much more accurate you can aim with a clearer rear and front sight. I've been shooting this way so long and concentrating on the front sight, leaving the rear sight to get fuzzy that for a minute I thought I was doing something wrong.

Am I???? Here is my question..... I had my K31 zeroed in perfectly before I attached the Merit Apperature Attachment. I had a hell of a time getting the thing to line up on my glasses so that I didn't change my more comfortable head position. After quite some time fiddling with it and not shooting, I finally reached an good position.. I'm a perfectionist..

It was hot and I needed to get my practice in and get out of the heat and humidity. I loaded up two 5rnd magazines and got in position to time 80 seconds for rapid fire prone. I shot comfortably in 73 seconds.

I looked at my target. After shooting 10 rounds with a clearer sight picture and target, to my surprise, all the shots were 5 inches off center. I started looking at my rifle to see if something was loose. No. Then I took off the Merit from my glasses and fired a couple of shots carefully and slowly into the 10 with no adjustments. Has anyone had the same or similar problems?? If adjusting the Merit Aperature System is this sensetive, you'd have to glue the thing on after you got it adjusted and dedicate a pair of presciption glasses for this purpose. Is it is that sensitive to find the right spot. Won't it change again the next time I put the attachment on? So zeroing with the Merit would only work for the time you were wearing them.

Any help or advice is appreciated. Its a shame if I can't the Merit Aperature. Not for the 60.00 lost, but because I really can see better with the device...

Thank you for your help and advice...

Sincerely,

Maq

Might depend on the off-eye - open or closed, squinted tight or relaxed, any changes can alter the focus in your shooting eye. I'd try light masking tape over the off-side lens both with and without the Merit.

Tnx Chuck,

I always shoot with both eyes open. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'll try covering the left eye. Anyone else ever noticed zeroing changes when trying to use a Merit Aperature Attachment?

tnx,
Maq

Just a little off subject

Were your groups any smaller with the Merit?

PM follows.
Thanks,

Merit Aperature Attachment

Saltydog,

I think they could be once you get used to it because the sight picture is better you can see the edges of the front blade and the edges of the rear blade. It gives you confidence that if you take your time and line things up, you can make a good shot. Without it, I'm checking and rechecking and adjusting then rechecking then firing and looking because I'm not sure I had the front site blade at the correct height etc. With the Merit you aren't rechecking as much and I think I would eventually shoot faster because I trust the sight picture..

But , how do I resolve the zeroing issue? I've written a letter to Merit Corporation and I will post it here when it arrives.

I like it... I just am confused about its use. I'm worried that even if I zero with the Merit, that when I take it off my glasses, I'll have lost everything unless I am able to re attach it exactly the same.... I'll let everyone know what they say..

Hope this helps...

Maq..

PS I was shooting good groups without it on slow fire. But fell apart on rapid fire 10 shots 80seconds... I think the Merit system would help.
