I asked also asked Tuner to work on my Nork and graciously he told me the same thing about the FFL....understandable.
Having read most or all of Tuners gunsmithing posts he obviously knows 1911s as well as being a well spoken gentleman with tons of class which is why I would prefer he work on my Nork. My Nork was a gift, my first gun and was also the gun that got me hooked on firearms/responsible firearms ownership and shooting thus carries more than a monetary value.
My Norinco 1911A1 clone came to me with Millett adjustable sights. One day while shooting outdoors the front sight flew off never to be found. I called Millett to get a replacement front sight and they were gracious enuff to mail me a new front sight free of charge even tho I told them I recieved the gun used with the sights already installed. Because of that I bought a new & different style rear blade and the required installation kit. Once I recieved the parts I started looking for a pro to install them.
I live about 40 miles south of Chicago but not in Cook county.
The first 2 gun shops I called said they didn't install Millett sights and the 3rd said to "bring it in" , I did and the slide sat on their shelf untouched for 2 full months when I picked it up to bring it to a different shop where after many phone calls inquiring about the progress and 7 weeks later the rear blade was installed and the front sight was installed...obviouisly cockeyed!
Fergitaboutit.
Now this wasn't what I wanted Tuner to do for me but what I'm getting at is I don't mind saving up my money to pay a professional for services rendered but geez...puleez render the services!!
What I wanted from Tuner was a trigger job, a new Wislon barrel & bushing installed, maybe some Tru Glo sights and anything else Tuner thinks it could use and after going thru the above I felt it would be well worth paying the extra $ for the transfers in addition to paying for the work. My FFL does my transfers for $20 on my end.
Well, after reading Tuner's posts relating to barrel & bushing, links and lugs I installed the the barrel myself and after 600 or so full power factory rounds all is well. Far as the trigger job I feel that is well beyond my skill level and if I can't get a local smith to 'properly' install a front sight inside of 2 months then I doubt any of'em can handle a trigger job, therefore, if our Tuner won't do it then it won't get done.
2 weeks ago I had the opportunity to shoot 4 different (one was my Nork) 1911s all day long, 2 with trigger jobs and 2 without. I was amazed at how much better even I could shoot the 2 with trigger jobs and the pull didn't feel all that much lighter.
