Question for GP100 and 686 owners

I have a 6" GP100 and a SimplyRugged Sourdough Pancake.

I live in rainy wet Seattle, but I don't fear wearing this out in my local forests. If the holster gets wet, there are instructions for wiping it down with olive oil.

My GP100 is newer, with the thick hogue monogrip. I prefer to wear this holster high for easier draw - but that does make it extremely difficult if not impossible to sit in a car and in some chairs.

Because it fits very snug to my hip, it's also difficult to squat or completely compress your legs. On occasion I climb over rocks or logs - that's really the only time I notice the holster.

For open woods carry I would recommend the Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake with the Flapjack option. That way it covers and protects the entire weapon, and you can remove the flapjack if you are going to use the holster for CCW or just in an environment where the extra protction isn't needed.
Nylon holsters tend to be excessivly bulky and generally cause more holster wear.

I like the Desantis thumbsnap scabbard. Great retention, full coverage, affordable and rugged.
I agree with Bula, DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard holsters are good holsters and comfortable when worn all day. Simply Rugged holsters are also top-of-the-line and will serve your needs.

The Bianchi 5BHL is a very nice, smooth leather lined high-ride holster that I can recommend highly. Last one I bought retail was ~$30, but that was a few years back... ;) They can be had for ~$60 now, but well worth it. They do not cover the trigger & trigger guard, but the hammer is held down by the snapped thumb strap; you would have to do some prodigious finagling to get it to fire by catching something on the trigger. Joe-Bob sez chek it out...
