So I have Cutshaw's books, Hogg's books, Max Popenker's website, the TOZ website, AK-47.net and several others, a search on this forum, and none of them seem to have the answer to a seemingly very simple question.

What does the "S" in AKS-74U stand for?

I know it's a Russian word for "folding stock" or something similar, I just don't know what that word is and I would like to. Thanks to Max, I do know that the U stands for "ukorochennyj" meaning "shortened".

Spetsnaz? Just a guess...

Sort of like how gun companies add SOCOM or Paratrooper or whatever to their compact gun names.

White Horseradish nailded with with the AKS-74U

OTs is for Orugie TsKIB SOO.
Orugie is Weapon in russian
TSKIB SOO is the Central Design & Development Bureau for Sporting & Hunting Arms
So, OTs is a standard designation for LE/Military small arms designed by TsKIB SOO
They hunting & sporting arms are marked MTs, where M stands for Model

So I have Cutshaw's books, Hogg's books
Then, you need this: ;)
