I was gifted a PS model B by my Dad. Missing the powder tray and the small wire saddle that the tray holder hangs from, but otherwise appears to be in great shape.

The mechanical dampening mechanism appears to be intact, but it's unclear where it should begin to engage. It was set at "0" before, but that seems incorrect to me.

At what point should the dampening mechanism engage? (Slightly above zero is my guess)

Any pictures of a complete Model B would also be appreciated.

TIA

Here is what I have. Please excuse the lock-ring as I was playing around trying to 'see it work',,, (Wire Pan holder not pictured)

I bet it is meant to be oil-balanced and the 'paddle' is bent:

Would you happen to know how much/what kind of oil I should use?

Thanks :thumbup::thumbup: for the link as I'm tempted to buy it for parts,,,

IIRC older oil dampened scales used mineral oil. I've used 5-30 motor oil and vegetable oil and the only problem was slower beam swing settling. You could probably get by with a "generic" pan and a wire "hook" Easter egg dye kit (light but strong wire).

I have all kinds of oil and thanks again for indicating what you have used / experienced.

I do have the OEM wire hook for the pan, but not the little wire clevis that the wire hook hangs from.

I imagine one from Hornady or RCBS would be my best bet

I do have a couple-3 other scale pans I could substitute.

Age of scale: Dad purchased it new in the early 60's. (He lost the matching powder drop somewhere along the way :()

Not bad for a 60 yr old scale.
