I'm looking at buying a Vector Uzi semi auto. This gun has the factory ugly looking barrel that to my eye is way too long.

In Maryland can I buy this gun, then at a later date have the factory barrel either chopped or swapped out and then pay the $200 SBR tax? Or do I have to register the gun as an SBR at the time of purchase, even though I have not yet done the mods? Thanks!

According to the NFA FAQ, SBRs are legal in MD. So you can send a pair of Form 1's, some additional paperwork, and a $200 check to BATFE. You also need to engrave your name, city and state on the frame, receiver, or barrel. When the approved Form 1 comes back you can shorten the barrel to the desired length.

Form 1 back in your hands with stamp on it BEFORE BEFORE BEFORE BEFORE chopping it!
I agree they look really awkward with the long barrels. Have fun with the new toy!
