I am looking an alternative to my IWB holster that I can keep in my truck for quick on and off situations like running into a store or whatever. I use the IWB holster when I know I'm gonna carry all day long, but I live and work on the farm and I don't need to carry IWB all day everyday... Carrying a compact M&P

I'm thinking a paddle holster.. Can anyone give some insight into whether a t-shirt will conceal when using a paddle holster? Or recommend another type holster.

In my experience, many paddle holsters can be easy to put on but horrible to remove in a hurry. I've had to nearly take my pants off before, though it was probably mostly my fault. I'd look for a holster that has belt loops with snaps like a lot of IWB holsters or something like the QD system for the Blackhawk Serpa holsters, if you can handle having a weird looking appendage hanging on your belt when you're not carrying.

As for concealing, if you find a holster that rides fairly high, and stick to a 4" or shorter barrel, you shouldn't have too much trouble keeping it covered, depending on your body type.
 
Take a look at Andrews Leather. They make a 'carjacker crossdraw' holster that snaps on/off very easily. I have one for a SIG 229.

Not super great as a full time concealment holster although it works with a good cover garment.
 
The good thing about easy on/off holsters is they come off easily. The bad thing about easy on/off holsters is they come off easily. Having seen people have guns fall off of their person several times (and having done it myself) I will only use holsters that are FIRMLY attached to my belt. Convenience is nice but having the gun stay where you need it is a very big deal.
 
I have modified through the loop OWB holsters to be easily on/off.

I remove some stitching at the bottom of the loop, and pull the 2 pieces apart. I then slice the bottom part of each and install snaps. You don't cut straight through, you cut one side higher, one side lower to give you room for the snaps.

So the loops are still utilized, but no need to remove belt to get on and off.
 
I'd look at a Safariland ALS paddle. The paddle is VERY secure, and the holster has a lock to keep the gun in, instead of friction. So you deactivate the lock, and the gun slides right out. There's no risk of the friction in the holster being too much, and the whole holster coming out. Not that that's common, but just my own observations. It isn't terribly low profile, though, so don't expect to be easily concealing with it.

Depends on what you use. Look at the Safariland QLS. Female side mounts to your belt, car, bed, whatever, and male side mounts to the holster. Slide the holster into place, and it locks in. Press two tabs, and it slides out. That, plus the ALS lock, makes for a VERY secure gun that is easy to take on and off.
 
I use paddles exclusively for my 1911's. 9mm and 357. Usually Fobus or Masters. They stay secure and are easy to put on and take off. Cover with a loose shirt.
 
I would just get a small pancake slide. Put it on in the morning when I got dressed and simply take the gun out when I didn't feel the need to have it. A t shirt will easily conceal the empty holster....You will probably find the holster and gun is more comfortable than a IWB rig and won't find a need to go gunless. I carry my SP101 daily in a small pancake and forget I am wearing it.
 
I wear a Wild Bill fusion paddle OWB holster . Carrying a cz rami 9mm. I did put a larger size paddle on the holster but the one it came with was sufficient to hold it in place.
 
Fobus Evo Paddle. Easy on. Clicks around a belt for security. Tension setting makes for good friction retention (note: NOT Level I, II, III type of retension). In a car, the Evo Roto paddles can be set up for cross draw by modifying cant.
 
Cant say how good it is yet as I just ordered it a few days ago...but another option none the less.

If you're carrying a subcompact I think a tshirt would cover it nicely. I'll be using it with a G30sf. And small enough I believe that when worn empty, it doesnt scream OWB HOLSTER! if someone notices it.
 
I really liked my blackhawk CQC for open carrying my fullsize M&P9. It also conceals well under a heavier jacket. It comes with the beltloops and the paddle and is adjustable for different cant angles. It would be cut a little long for the compact, but nothing a hacksaw or bansaw and fine grit sandpaper couldn't fix.

Also, my Side Guard Quick Clip is really easy on and off.
 
It seems that nobody has much love for Fobus holsters anymore, but I wear one of their paddle holsters everyday. It is easy on and off, and stays put when it's on. I have never had a problem with one of them, and they cost less than $20.00 YMMV
 
check out foxx holsters really happy with mine they have a model called trapper that
in designed for quick on/off

Maybe you just need a more comfortable holster.

I don't need to carry all day, every day either... most days, I never leave my own property. But I put the gun on when I get dressed in the morning, and it stays there until I get undressed at night. Not because I need it, but because it's less hassle than taking it off, or remembering to put it back on.

I used to sneer at the stories about people who forgot they were carrying a gun, but once I found a rig I liked, I've done it myself.
 
In regards to TRX's comment, I would much rather find a super comfortable holster and just carry all day everyday.. That would be one less thing to have to worry about whether I got with me or not... The IWB I have now is comfortable, but I think there is one out there that is MORE comfortable.. LOL..
