Before I go stumbling through the saiga-12.com forums, I thought I'd ask this question here first.

I was looking through Atlantic Firearm's selection of Saiga-12 shotguns, and noticed that in addition to the politically-correct, sporterized version, there are two offerings for properly converted Saiga-12s. The first is the Tromix conversion, which we all know and love. The second offering is also a proper looking Saiga-12 with the pistol grip, moved trigger group, etc, but simply says "Saiga-12 combat shotgun" or something to that extent.

Does anyone know anything about this particular type? The website wasn't exactly very informative. Are normal Saiga-12 shotguns now being sent straight from Russia without being sporterized now that AWB 1.0 is long gone? Or is this just another conversion by someone not as well known as Tromix? Anyone have any idea?

I don't know who converted the other shotguns, but all Saiga's are still imported in a "sporting configuration".

Imported of the original version (which is not considered sporting) is banned, and so conversions still have to follow the rules of 922(r) and end up with 10 or fewer foriegn parts.

They are fun shotguns, Someone posted that a lot of them are being purchased by police/armies internationally, and so the supply is low. I don't know if this was true, and took it with a grain of salt as the guy was trying to sell them ...

Aka is correct...the AWB has nothing to do with the Saiga 12 being a sporting shotgun. While I like Tony's work, I just cannot justify spending close or over $1k on a russian product. I'd do the conversion myself if I buy the Saiga 12.

I can't talk about Tony's work on his builds,but do own a S-12.
I've had it 6 days now. I've gone through 6 different types of
bird shot,2 types of 00 buck and 3 brands of slugs.
IT'S an AK at heart!!! She will eat anything you feed her.
Good luck on your choice, any S-12 is a good choice.
Just a little some thing to add.I liked the S-12 so much,have a S-410
on the way to keep her company!!!

Darn. I am out of the mainstream once again.

I rather like what you call the "politically-correct, sporterized version" and am not much interested in what you term "properly converted Saiga-12s" and don't belong to the club of all who "know and love" a "proper looking Saiga-12."

MRIMan you are having much better luck with shells than I am. Definitely will not cycle any low recoil shells and some that should be okay jam every now and then. Not sure if that was the new 10 round mag or the shell. Winchester AA Super Sports or Handicaps have cycled 100% reliable.

I did the conversion and it was no big deal.
