R Lee "Gunny" Ermey swords

Unfortunately Gunny (R. Lee) passed away. His collection is up for auction. There are some katanas in it. I wonder if they are the real deal. Not being critical, just curious:

I was wondering when his estate auction would occur since he's been gone since April of 2018. Nice guy. He was a real help with Knife Rights.

Most of the swords appear to be "real". The Gladius and one katana raise questions as to whether they were just decorative or functional, but the rest look to be correct. I'd have to handle them to have a better opinion. Strangely, you can sniff the grip of an old katana and detect a faint spicy/cinnamon smell quite often.

Very close to cinnamon. It’s actually Clove oil.

Choji oil is the traditional oil for Japanese swords. Mineral and clove oil.

It’s a wonderful smell.

Comes in a sword cleaning kit.
