.338 :)
just kidding :) i used a marlin 60ss .22
a browning BPS full choke 12ga with #5's or #6's, my friend used a .410/.22 which was perfect i believe

When I was a kid I used to make box traps anc catch rabbits in our garden year around. You don't know what panic is until you are a 5 year old kneeling down to open the box trap to pull out the rabbit - and out comes a very upset possum all grin and teeth.

I'd take anything with a large headlight attached to it. I never see them except at night while driving around the hunting land.

But my "rabbit gun" (theoretical at this point) is a Savage combo gun, 20 ga under, .22lr over. Keep on shotgun to hit them on the run. If they stop, flick the selector to .22. #6 shot give or take.

I use a 410 for rabitts, we are over run with them all year round. Still find the odd hundred riddled with Mixematosis at the end of the summer, horrible decease.

how to set snares?

Soft, braided picture-hanging wire makes great snares . . . easy to form & locks into the hair/fur & doesn't back-off. Set before a storm & check after it clears . . . should have plenty of bunnies.

Hunting with a 22 is as close to bow hunting as I can find...bunnies and 22's go hand in hand. Sometimes I will use my sons cap loaders and go for head shots. My old Glenfield bolt action can place 1" groups at 50 yards.

BTW, aren't ticks out in Utah now? You may need to call your local conservation office, but you are really at risk for tularemia...that is no joke.

We always wait till a HARD freeze for that very reason...seems it is present from tick season until a hard freeze.

An AK for rabbit...are you serious?
