For over two decades I've used a set of silicone molded ear plugs that somebody made for me at a competition trap shoot. Needless to say, I like 'em!!

Now comes the problem. After twenty plus years of using these things, they're starting to show their age. So...while cruising around MidwayUSA's web site what do I discover but Radians Custom Molded Earplugs that you can do yourself. Since mine are still somewhat servicable I ordered a set for my wife.

Yesterday afternoon I sat her down, mixed up the concoction strictly according to the directions and started stuffing the mix into her ears. Once I had both of her ears done I set the timer for 15 minutes (directions say 10 minutes minimum) and we sat back and waited for them to cure. After 15 minutes I reached up and was going to remove the one from the first ear I'd done and realized that the silicone hadn't even started to cure yet, so I set the timer for another 15 minutes.

After a total time of 30 minutes the silicone was not set, at all. The plugs did come out of her ears without leaving anything behind but they're worthless. It took over four hours to cure to a point that they would return to their original shape when squeezed. I followed the directions explicitly, wash my hands etc.

If you've got any experience with these things give me some clues as to what I did to mess this up. I really don't want to do another set until I've at least got some clues as to what I did wrong.

Update

I ordered these through MidwayUSA.com and before doing do I did read the reviews. The majority of which were positive. The reviews shown on MidwayUSA don't look anything like the ones on Amazon. I attribute this to the fact that if you're on Midway you're almost assuredly a shooter, Amazon not so much. That doesn't have anything to do with this though, I was just thinking through the keyboard.

I called the toll free number on the package and actually got to talk to a live body and the body was even in the U.S.A. believe it or not. The guy told me that it probably wasn't anything that I had done wrong and that a small percentage do fail to cure. They are going to send me a replacement. I wasn't expecting that and for right now I'd give their customer service department a gold star.

Here's my thoughts on why this didn't work. Plain and simple: Old/Outdated Product. Midway and probably also Amazon buys this stuff by the train car load. Secondly I ordered "Pink" for my wife. I would assume that pink isn't exactly one of their hot movers (I could be wrong).

The replacement color will be more masculine and hopefully fresher product. Also it's coming direct from Radians so hopefully this time it will work.
