Just wondering who else has to do it. Comments about other mag releases welcome. (I love the USP and Walther P99 mag release under the trigger!) If you use the support hand, I would vote it under Yes.
I have what I consider to be medium to small-ish medium sized hands and I just barely have to shift my hand to release the magazine... Actually, more like having to point slightly to the left of the target (I am right handed) rather than truly changing my grip on the gun.
Actually, when firing two-handed, I drop it with the first knuckle of the middle finger of my left hand.
I am one of the lucky 10% of shooters of the 1911 who gets to use his trigger finger to drop the mag.
There are some commonalities to the best fighting firearms for left handers: Horses.
The Colt SAA is left hand friendly.
All lever action rifles are better for lefties than righties because of where the loading gate is.
The 1911 is the last horse pistol so is also well suited to left handed use. Even the original milspec ones with their small tangs and right handed only thumb safety are easy to manipulate with the left index finger.
All we southpaws have to do is get the mag catch spring to a comfortable tension and then stab the button. Unlike a righty it is near impossible for us sinisteres to accidentally drop a mag.
