I took a bunch of pictures last week when the weather was perfect for it. After I got what I needed for the ivory article, I took a bunch of guns I'd never photographed before. Just now getting to editing some of them.

Three Old Model .357's I've never photographed. Top flat-top came from an online classified, along with the stags. Middle came from the Jeff Quinn collection. It's been refinished and fitted with what looks like mesquite burl. Bottom is an eared model I bought years ago when I lived in Florida. It's always been my plan to have Horvath convert it to a 4" .45ACP. It wears the BluMagnum stags that were originally fitted to my Jim Stroh custom .44Spl.

The first ever pair I put together. The bottom is a regular production Uberti with their "old west" finish. The top is a Cimarron 7th Cavalry with their "original finish". The bottom gun I stripped and refinished the grips using the stain the Colt experts swear is the closest match to the original Colt grips. Same color as Uberti's factory varnish, so I no longer bother.

I've accumulated several sets of Keith Brown grips over the least year or two. This is a set in pecan on my 27-2.

This is a set in fancy walnut on my 2nd Model .44Spl.

I've had the fleeting thought that some folks might think I was fibbing when I said I replaced the TruIvory on my engraved Open Top with the real thing. Because in pics it looked the same. Here's the two, with the TruIvory now residing on my 1860 Richards Type II. Which really indicates just how good TruIvory was.

Gorgeous. I almost bid on the Jeff Quinn gun. How can you tell it's refinished? The "plum" color of the loading gate looks to me like what sometimes happens to old blued guns. Looks great.
It was advertised as such and you can see there was some pitting on the frame. I think the loading gate was left alone and that's Ruger's plum.

I thought at first the grip frame was just bead blasted but after I got it, it looks like it's nickel plated.

Very nice.

Gotta love those three screw Rugers.

I like your 44 Special Smith too. A little bit of honest wear to the blue. Hmmmmm.....that must be a very late 44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model, because if memory serves, the Wolf and Klar 44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model, with the shroud surrounding the ejector rod came out in 1926.

The plum coloring on early Rugers is because they were still figuring out how to finish their Investment Cast parts. It turns out, there was a little too much silicon in the steel they were using. When they backed off the silicon content, the 'plum' coloring on their blued parts went away.

The plum color of the loading gate on this Flat Top 44 Mag is typical of the problems they were having with the silicon content in the steel. I kind of like it.

Some beautiful photos of some even more beautiful revolvers!

Thanks for sharing them with us!

I always liked the plum color on the older rugers. Some people hate it and see it as a flaw, I like to think it gives them some character.

Craig all those grips and guns are just plum drool worthy!:D

Where should we look for your Ivory article when published? Thanks.

Ya' know, guys, I never used to visit this thread very much, I was an automatic kind of guy. But in the last few months I have kind of fallen in love with revolvers. I picked up a Uberti Cattleman last year with the 7 1/2" barrel, in 45 Colt. I have fallen under its spell and I have returned to the Light Side of the Force.

What I like the most about this thread can be summed up in two names: Driftwood Johnson and CraigC. You both post incredible pictures, backed up by a wealth of information. Many thanks to you both as I travel down the path of enlightenment. (AKA learning about and collecting revolvers.)

I have a M77 in 220 swift that has the entire receiver like that. I like it.

Tark, you sure are right about misters Driftwood and Craig and what they bring to THR, just an incredible collection there CraigC! But Mr. Wright (and some others) sure ain't no slouch in the revolver department either. I am continually amazed at the wealth of experience and knowledge, along with the willingness to share such, that is available here.

Quite right Bennj. I am learning.

My 1975 Service Six frame is quite plum colored.
