Greetings from Fort Benning.

Collegiate Nationals are being held this week at the Army Marksmanship Unit here at Fort Benning. This is due to the close of the Wolf Creek range in Atlanta.

Tension is unusually high this year, due to the whole Iraq thing and the possibility of the base being locked down.

Today was check-in and open practice. Matches begin tomorrow with 50 meter pistol and Women's Air pistol. I'll be shooting Friday in 25 meter pistol for the team championship and individual championship. Also on Friday will be 25 meter Women's Sport pistol. The competition will end on Saturday with 10 meter air pistol and the awards ceremony.

The top ten college teams get invited and attending this year is The Ohio State University (go us!), the U.S. Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Coast Guard Academy, the Citadel, Texas A&M, Southwest Missouri State University, M.I.T., the Merchant Marine Academy, and the RMC (Canadian military academy).

It should be an interesting week. Navy seems to be the favorate, based on their Sectionals scores with us, army, citadel and coast guard all in doing about the same.

There *should* be more THR people here (dan, chris, ian), but Purdue failed to show up at Sectionals. Shame on you guys.

Things are looking good for Ohio State. The first sign came with our flight number, DL1911. The second good sign was the 2003 nationals t-shirts were red and grey.

I'll check back in with updates throughout the week. THR member and host of American Shooter, Jim Scoutten should be here filming this week as well.

update

Today was 50 meter Free Pistol and 10 m women's air pistol.

I believe that the Citadel won 50m team, and Sgt. Newton of Citadel won the 50m individual. Team scores for Women's air hadn't been calculated when I last checked. However, my teammate Jessica Marshall took first place and our other young lady Jenn took 3rd.

Rock on!
Since Purdue isn't there, I'll just have to settle for rooting for you guys. ;) Give congrats to Jessica and Jenn. And goodluck. Kiss that Pardini for me.:)

Go Bucks!

Wish I was back in OSU just to join the shooting teams.\

Good luck Tom.

Ron,

You could always come visit campus and pretend to be on one of the shooting teams :D

Seriously, you bring that p7m8 down and I'll provide all the free range time you can handle.

tom

Oh yea, Jim Scoutten was filming here today. I remember skipping Saturday morning cartoons to watch his show when I was a kid.

Hey man, i was looking for info on that, i was actualy in columbus @ OSU today, you offered once, think you could hit me with info on that shooting team agian man? OSU is a sweeet campus, i really liked it.

Jake,

You can see the team webpage at www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com

Just select pistol from the menu on the left. Are you going to be coming to campus again anytime this spring? If so I can give you a tour of the range and introduce you to Coach. If you want, I can also mail you one of our media guides if you'd like, just PM me your address.

Hey Tom, let me know what you guys/gals would like to try out and if I have it, I'll try to make it up there with them some time before the end of the school year.

Ron,

If I recall correctly, you happen to own a very nice Free pistol and a nice sport pistol. The state ISSF championships are next weekend, you ought to come and give it a try.

The unofficial results are in. This year's Intercollegiate Champions are the U.S. Naval Academy. The Citadel took 2nd, the U.S. Military Academy took 3rd and The Ohio State University came in 4th.

Last year we came in 7th, this year 4th, so I guess we have no choice but to win next year.

On a happy note, we took 3rd in my event (25m pistol). Only a few points separated the top teams. Navy had a score of 2110, Army 2105 and OSU 2102.

Are these college teams all Bullseye et cetera or do they have...ahem..."practical/tactical" stuff like IPSC, IDPA, 3-gun etc.?

Collegiate pistol is ISSF/Olympic disciplines. I think there is a college category in conventional bullseye at Camp Perry, but Westpoint is the only school sending a team(I'll be going as an individual).
