I've been kicking around the idea of getting a gun to carry while out on my runs through the country. The LCP was quite appealing, but the 380 ACP doesn't thrill me. I was sure that there had to be a tiny 9mm pistol out there that would work great. I shot the LCP and while it is a fine pistol, I really didn't like it at all. Sooo I stroll into the toy store and what do I see hopping the window saying "Pick me! Pick me!", a slightly used (by a little lady who preferred a wheel gun) Kel-tec PF9 for under 2 bills. I filled out the paperwork and out the door I went. Took it to the range this morning and put through 100rds of my loads + 20rds of 147gr Win JHP defense ammo and one mag of 124gr Hornady TAP. Well needless to say I was impressed with this little pistol. The recoil is very manageable albeit a little more focused due to the slimness of the frame. I easy could have put through 2x these number of rounds, but I got tired of loading the single 7rd mag. The trigger is smooth DAO with little stacking and not near as long a pull as I thought it would have. Accuracy was just fine at 30'-40'. I was easily able to keep double taps in the CoM circle on an IDPA target. Defense ammo fed just fine, I'd like to run more Hornady TAP through it before I carry with that ammo. Win JHP will work for now. I'm truly impressed with this little pistol! After having a polymer Kahr and paying 4x the $, I can't believe I didn't try these before. Now I've heard mixed reviews on the Kel-tec's, but this PF9 seems to be a great bang for the $$$. I'll try to chrono some defense rounds to determine velocity out of the 3" barrel.
