Got out to the range again - this time with my Pietta Smith Carbine. It's been almost a year since I shot this gun. As usual, she shot just fine.

The first target was shot standing up, freehand at 25 yards.

The second target was shot seated at 50 yards.

I used plastic shells filled with 30 grains of Goex 2F with a lubed .515 Smith bullet.

Do you have any problems with powder coming out of the cartridge flash hole?
I use 2f Goex powder and I keep the shells nose down (flash hole side up) in a box designed for shot gun shells. So it's not really a problem with the powder spilling out of the flash hole.

A small square of Scotch tape over the flash hole will solve the problem, no need to peel off the tape before firing

We use a square of rolling paper glued to the flash hole. The smith shooters I know drill out the flash hole a bit for better ignition.

Smiths aren't intended for paper cartridges. Those were unique to the Sharps.

The original Smith carbines used a gutta-percha cartridge. N-SSA shooters use plastic or brass tubes.
