I took my new Henry all weather 45-70, with the loading gate, and my new Rossi 38/357 out to the range last week, and all went extremely well.
I shot some 45-70s I had loaded up the last time I was stationed in Kodiak, AK, back in 1983,
and have to be honest, did not know if they would still be viable. They shot very accurately
I was honestly surprised.

Very cool! Glad you had fun with your new lever guns.

My maternal Grandfather spent WW II on Kodiak in the Marine Corps, awaiting the Japanese attacks further up the Aleutian’s that never materialized. He said that back then, salmon fishing parties were accompanied by a couple of Garand-toting Marines to act as lookouts for bears along the riverbanks. (He said that the fishing parties he took part in were never bothered by them.) :)

How did the Rossi shoot for you? I need to get mine out and stretch their legs soon.

Stay safe.

I was at the same base your grandfather was at.. In 1971 that whole base was turned over to the Coast Guard, and since then about half the base was turned over to the natives, or Indians.
Most in Alaska are called natives not Indians. I was up there the first time 1975 thru 1978, and the second time 1983 thru 1986. I loved it up there, and had I a promise of a job on retirement, I would have retired there.
When I was up there the first time, some of the old gun emplacement foundations from the war, were still in place. I loved the hunting and fishing. I was never bothered by the bears, saw a mama teaching her cubs how to salmon fish, but we were deer hunting and saw them from a distance. Also ran into another one deer hunting in a different place, and every night they would raid the garbage dump, and come down and raid a dumpster outside of a small base store real close to a base housing area.
The Rossi shot great, was using factory 38 specials, a little louder than my Henry 22 golden boy, but about the same in recoil. Next time I go out will shoot some 357 mags

Oh and the 38/357 was easier on the shoulder, than the 45-70 but I did do something right, as a three round shot string were all touching, so I guess I have not forgotten how to shoot, and was not a sandbag rest, just using my elbows on the bench and firing

At age 55 (that well over a decade ago), I re-qualified for expert marksman at a military training facility. Our crew was touring for some totally different reason, but being good-hearted, they let me and a much younger man "shoot" the laser rifles (M4 rifles) at a huge computer-generated image on screen. Images of enemies would pop up. One "sighted-in" the laser thingy prior to shooting. The young fellow was a hunter and expert marksman.

Now the amusing part. My arthritis is BAD ... and then some. I'm in the kneeling position, shot very good, the young soldiers clapped ... but I couldn't stand up! My joints/muscles had frozen-up. Two young fellows came over, grabbed me by my shoulders and helped me stand up. We all had a good laugh! :D:D:D
