Ranges in Orange County, CA?

So it's set that I'll be moving down to Orange County in almost exactly two months from now. Does anyone know of any good ranges to shoot at? I normally frequent The Firing Line chain of ranges, but was wondering if there was anything better out there. They're cool and all, but I just wanted to know about other options before I commit to another year's membership there.

On Target in Laguna Niguel (southern OC) is quite good. 25 yards, well lit, clean, well stocked in firearms and accessories.

Of course, I'm biased. It's only 5 minutes from my house!

If you're a member at one of the Firing Lines in LA, your membership is good at the one in Huntington Beach.

I suggest the Orange County Indoor Shooting

Mike and his brother there are easy going. 12 lanes. reliable reload ammo, close to a freeway and downtown Brea.

I used to live 10 minutes from them. Now I'm 30 minutes away in traffic. But I still like going there.

Not sure if it's close enough for you, but I shot with a guy from Orange County this weekend up at Burro Canyon range near Azusa. He let me shoot his Mosin-Nagant, and I let him shoot my M1A, and we both left happy. My first time at that range, and it was run by good people and had plenty of cool shooters to trade guns with for a few shots.

Well, the only ranges i've been to are the Firing Line HB, the San Gabriel Valley Gun Club, and the Burro Canyon Shooting Range. I *love* the Firing Line, i go there all the time. I've only been to Burro Canyon once, but it seemed like a pretty cool place. I go to SGVGC occasionally, it's okay but kinda hot there, and farther than i'd like to travel. It's the nearest place I know of that i can shoot centerfire rifle, though.

My personal choice is On Target in Laguna Niguel. To me it has better ventilation than the Firing Line. That matters a LOT to me. Plus I felt that On Target had more selections regarding rentals and a shop to boot!

One word advice, STAY AWAY from EVANS SHOOTERSWORLD. That owner can simply rot in HELL. He charged me and my dad $115 for 2 boxes of .45, 2 boxes of 9mm, a few targets, 2 gun rentals. What a rude prick also. Cocky and arrogant. $115 for 200 rds and 2 rental guns. Bastard.


I think that alone turned my dad off from shooting cuz it was so expensive.

On Target is a good range and good people; I'm there enough I bought a membership.
The Firing Line in Huntington Beach is the same a couple week ago as it was when I was a member there 10 years ago - continuity is nice

Orange County Indoor Range in Brea is the former Brea Range and before that was a Firing Line.

Both the Firing Line ranges are 50 feet; On Target is 75 (25 yards) which is a benefit: no limitations on ammo (magnum okay) and you can even shoot shotguns there, and frangible ammo in rifles (though why one would want to shoot a centerfire rifle at 25 yards is puzzling ... )

But the deciding factor for me is convenience: I'm in Tustin and On Target is more convenient than the other two. When I was in West Anaheim and Stanton, and worked in Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa, The Firing Line was closer. If you're north of Anaheim, OC Indoor would be closest.

I'll ditto the dislike of Evan's due to cost and attitude.

Insight Range in Artesia is convenient for 'way west OC (Los Alamitos/Cypress/Seal Beach) and a great place.

The Sheriff's range in Orange across the street from the Pond arena is open to the public but has odd restrictions.

There are no outdoor ranges left in OC. I go to Prado and Mike Raahauge's for matches, am a member at West End Gun Club near Fontana, and get up to Burro Canyon for occasional shoots.

Oh, and Iron Sights in Oceanside is not too far if you're in 'way south Orange County, though On Target is closer; they are actually very similar.

Oh yeah, On Target is a gun store as well, and if you buy one there you can shoot it at the range during the waiting period. Excellent pricing, fair selection.

Shooting indoors sucks. Try Prado in Chino or Raahauges in Norco. Both are easy to get to from "The O.C."

Convenience for me. I'm a member over at OC Indoor in Brea. Nothing wrong with that range but, like all public ranges, they get their share of people you'd rather not shoot next to.

I socialize more at the range than I shoot.

I never been to the Brea range and only been to On Target once but it is too far from where Marklbucla will be living (an hour round trip). I went to Evans' twice while shopping for an M1A and probably won't be returning for a long, long time.

I shoot at the Firing Line.
