Ranges near Longmont, CO

Like the thread title says, does anyone know of any good ranges around Longmont? Preferebly one that has distances 100yds and up? I occasionaly go up to a friend's property to shoot but that gets to be a hassle for the both of us so it would be nice to find a local place to go.

There is a disturbing lack of public shooting opportunities along the Front Range.

Unfortunately, you do not have many options. There is the Boulder Rifle club but it is private and the waiting list to join is years long. There is a nice range out past the airport that is accepting members, but it will be an hour drive for you at least. There are a couple of other semi-private and private clubs but they're all either a drive (Pawnee, Owl Canyon) or have waiting lists.

There is one public shooting area up near Allenspark in the hills, if you don't mind shooting elbow to elbow with everyone else.

Living in Loveland, I usually head out Hwy 14 to either the Pawnee Grasslands or Pawnee Sportsmans Center (I am a member there.) But to shoot four an hour means 3 hours of of my day and $20 in gas in my truck.

No matter how you slice it, it just seems to be a minimum 2 hour R/T drive to shoot.

When I lived in California, I had 3 public ranges within 30 minutes of me. In California!!!!

Here in Colorado, no such luck. It's frustrating to me, because I can't even head to the range to work up a load after work. I have to "plan a trip" on a weekend to be able to find the time.

That's pretty much the story. No easy to access, closeby ranges in CO unless you're very lucky.
 
Cleardiddion, being as I lived in Denver for 30 years until 1.5 years ago when i moved to Oregon I know of no public ranges now except the one one at Cherry Creek State Park in Denver and that is only a 100 yrds. They said they were going to make a couple of 200 yrd. lanes there before I moved so you might check with them. There used to be a 600 yrd range Larimer county dump butthat was closed a number of years ago. There is a few clubs though that you could join. Aurora Gun Club, 200 yrd. Golden gun club out by Byers, 600 yrd and another one out by Kiowa don't remember the name though.
Compared to Colorado the state of Oregon SUCKS !!!!! Very poorly run state compared to Colorado. But they do have a totally awesome range here in southern Oregon. Reputed to be the best west of the Mssissippi

That's just the 600 yrd lanes. They have 100yrd lanes, 200 yrd, lanes, pistol lanes, skeet, trap, combat action, cowboy action, club house, picnic area, restrooms and a big pond with ducks and geese. Heck if they had showers I would just live there. $50 a year.

Its a little better down south.

Dragon Mans in Co Springs has 100 and 200yrd ranges. 10$ per day.

Down in Pueblo there is Pueblo West.

Could you give some contact information for Dragon Mans? CO Springs isn't too bad of a drive compared to going elsewhere for me, and I've never heard of this range.
 
Looks like I'll just have to go pester my friend.
He's got a great set up because he's up in the mountains. We took a range finder and my MN out once and was tagging at around 700m. Good times. Thanks for all the info!

Gunmn 74 who you talkin to? I know here in southern Oregon it's just a northern suburb of California .......... this state is "California"

One of the reasons I got me a rifle is (beyond the simple want and need for those loveable things) was how cock eyed everything seems to be getting anytime a kalifornian gets near. But, I really do like the area and I might stick around. The only thing I suppose I'll have to do is find a nice property up in the hills along with a happy family. I don't think a sole companion in 7.62x54R is a family but I'm sure it'll grow soon enough (especially after christmas!).
