I agree, there's nothing wrong with Brazillian made guns, despite the horror stories I've heard about Taurus I have many friends that have never had a problem with any of theirs.

Taurus just needs to use a better finish and ditch that lock on the hammer. Have read of an incidnet where the lock broke while firing and froze the hammer up.

I have a Charles Daly EFS, which is a sister-brand of Rock Island Armory 1911's. Made in the Phillippines, some hate 'em but I love mine to death. Generally 100-200 or more cheaper than even the base models from Springfield and other manufacturers, amazing customer service, and the quality is not bad at all. For a base-model 1911 you definetly can't go wrong with the Rock Islands, if you want a bit more feature-wise, go with a Charles Daly.

I had a Colt Commander once, not too good !!! It refused any hollow point, ball ammo only.

Currently I chose a GLOCK 21 as my .45 acp carry pistol.

thanks for the replies, fellas. seems like the consensus is that i can safely remove kimber and sig from the list to focus on colt, SA, and S&W. i guess i sort of figured that going in, but kimber gets a lot of pub amongst certain 1911 fans. and i really like sig's other models, so i thought i'd through them in as a different choice.

i guess i didn't mention earlier that, though it would primarily be for range use, it might see some double duty for HD or as a truck gun. not for CCW though. hence the premium on reliability, though i put a premium on that for any firearm i buy.

These days you're rolling the dice with any production 1911. It's a design that requires attention to detail that i think is lacking in a very competitive market. They are all having spotty manufacturing issues that slip through. Get the one that has the features you want, at the price you can afford. Hope you get one that you don't have to send back.

I like my Paras' better than my Wilson,Kimber, or Colt. Waaaaaayyyyy better.
Heard a lot of trash talk about them, but have not ever-ever had a single FTF, anything. All stock except for the mag release- it is a steel one now. Well, I got some Hogue wrap arounds with finger grooves, so maybe not "stock"
Sig is a little overpriced, Texas mfg. STI looks great, but I haven't got one- yet!
Anything from S&W should be great, as is with Tarus. Anything made in the Phillipines................... you'll have to get back to me on that one. Might as well be made in china- no way.
