To extend the sunset on the assault weapons ban for 10 years. (Introduced in House)

HR 3831 IH

108th CONGRESS

2d Session

H. R. 3831
To extend the sunset on the assault weapons ban for 10 years.

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

February 25, 2004
Mr. CASTLE (for himself, Mrs. MCCARTHY of New York, Mr. TOM DAVIS of Virginia, Mr. SHAYS, Mrs. JOHNSON of Connecticut, Mr. KIRK, Mr. QUINN, and Ms. ROS-LEHTINEN) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A BILL
To extend the sunset on the assault weapons ban for 10 years.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. EXTENSION OF SUNSET ON ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN FOR 10 YEARS.

Section 110105(2) of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 (18 U.S.C. 921 note) is amended by inserting `, or in the case of the amendments made by section 110102, 20 years,' after `10 years'.

This is the Bill George Bush said he would vote for.:barf: :barf:

This is one the bills that Tom Delay has repeatedly stated will never make it to a vote.

I just sent the following e-mail:

Rep. Hart,

While I am not a member of your Congressional district, I am directing this plea to you as the sole member of the House Judiciary Committee from the state of Pennsylvania.

On 2/25/04, H.R. 3831, "a bill to extend the sunset on the assault weapons ban for 10 years" was referred to the House Judiciary Committee. As a responsible, law-abiding firearms owner, I am vehemently opposed to any continuation of this onerous holdover from the Clinton years. The so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" must be allowed to sunset, as its primary impact has only been to punish those of us who are already inclined to obey the rule of law.

Punish the person who commits a violent crime, not the tool used to commit the act. I would be very appreciative if you would contact me to let me know the status of H.R. 3831, your intentions regarding the bill, when it is scheduled for a committee hearing, and its prospects of making it out of committee.

Thank you for all your hard work in serving the people of the 4th District of Pennsylvania.

Sincerely,

xxxxx

Wake up Call your congressman, before this passes while we are all worrying about 659/1805.

Being able to own them at all is more important than lawsuit reform.

Call your congressman before this reaches Bush's desk cause he WILL SIGN IT.:fire: :what:

Right now you have plenty of time to worry about S1805. It will be voted up or down at 11:00 a.m. Eastern, so if you haven't made your calls MAKE THEM!

After that, we'll turn to the new kid on the block. No rest for the wicked.

Alittle Pink Floyd lyric comes to mind...."just five minutes worm your honor, him and me alone." :banghead:

In the L&P forum I think :banghead: will be a standard in almost every post until after November.

I just called Rep. Hart's office (I'm in her district) and the person I talked to said the committee isn't doing anything with that bill right now. She said Hart was opposed to it. The person took my name and address and was very nice.
