RCBS 30-180-FN loads for 30-30 M94

I started casting these recently and they are heavier than stated. Gas Checked and lubed they run 196-197 grains.
Not a lot of load data for pills that heavy for use in the 30-30. I'm looking to get 1900-2000 fps from a newer production 20" Win model 94AE. Anyone have any references for W748 with bullets this heavy? I did find some 190 grainer Accurate Arms data for using 2230 in 30-30 but I'd like to stick with W748. I'd appreciate any help or advice. Thanks.

I've actually seen more of the cast bullet crowd using light loads of Varget, 4350 or XMP 5744. There may be loads for 748 as well, though.

thanks for the links. I may try to source an RCBS loadbook to get some bullet specific W748 loads.

RCBS Cast Bullet manual #1 shows:

187 grain, 30-180-FN bullet
748 powder
28.0 start = Compressued load = 1,818 FPS in 20" barrel.

30.0 Max = Compressed load = 1,963 FPS.

Just out of curiosity, what lead alloy are you using? When I mix up an alloy with the intent of making it hard, the bullet always weighs less because the antimony and tin are less dense. If you want lighter bullets from the same mold, I think it's worth considering.

PS When a member like rc model shares info from RCBS #1, it surely points out one of the values of being a member of good Forums, and keeping old reference manuals. Thanks, cosmo and rc.

Alloy is 95 lb clip on WW, 5 lbs lino and 5 lbs 60/40 solder.
Not sure what the final ratios are-I had used an alloy calculator when I smelted it, not sure without it in front of me. It's all I use for pistol and rifle.

Agree with rc model. you can even add 6 grains of trailboss for a good cowboy load. 29 grains h4895

After a little more research I decided to load up a handfull with 28 g of W748, man are they sweet shooters. They hit the 200 yrd plates with a very nice smack! Thanks guys for the help. I appreciate it.

I"m curious,do those heavy boolits ush up against the rfileing in your gun? they do in ours....a Marlin,and a Stevens bolt action.We decided against using them for that reason.

Sass, funny you ask. They do hit the rifling on my 94, I asked about this over on Castboolits.com. Consensus was this actually aids in accuracy. I only get a little resistance when chambering the last 1/3 of an inch. I was a little worried about pressure problems but they shot so darned good.

i know this thread is old but is anyone loading the rcbs 180 with unique in 30-30. Im looking for some plinker loads. mine are about 200 grains with the lube and gas check.

I loaded some with 8.0 gn unique im gonna try tommorrow. Should be light but just wondering if anyone else is going that route?

Gaschecks maynot be needed with that load, depending on your bullet alloy, but they are insurance.

If your looking for light plinking loads, faster powders might be called for, and there would be no need of gaschecks.

If your looking for a light hunting load, heavier powder charges and gaschecks maybe needed.

Bula, that's a fairly hard alloy, hope your not expecting too much expansion, I use 100% wheelweights in a 308win, it's plenty hard enough for the velocity, but getting a bullet to expand is the issue for me.
