The RCBS Cowboy dies are very expensive but I might have found a way around buying the Cowboy seating die. I have an extra 30-30 seating die from an older set of dies and I was wondering if I could use the Cowboy seating die replacement plug in a "regular" RCBS 30-30 seating die? I know the paperwork says it's a replacement plug for the Cowboy seating die but that doesn't mean it's true. Maybe they are trying to keep us from doing what I'm thinking of doing. It's just suspect that it's the only seating plug listed on the site.

Does anyone here know for sure if that replacement seating plug can be used in a "normal" RCBS 30-30 seating die? Please no guesses, only if you know for sure because I don't want to buy it and it doesn't fit...

Thanks in advance!

I do not know the answer to the question, but have you considered a Lyman M die? Or do you want to stick with RCBS, which is always a good choice. I do like the M die though. Good stuff.

The obvious answer would be to call RCBS and ask them! I bet the only difference between the regular and cowboy seater plug is one is blued and the other is not. They said in the past that the die body is designed differently with respect to the crimp but that was all they mentioned IIRC,

Yeah, I know but I'm cheep! I wanted to see if I could modify a die that was laying around to better seat those 165gr 30-30 cast bullet I bought from Missouri bullets.

I didn't want to ask RCBS because like I said in my OP, I'm thinking they wouldn't change their advice since the official paperwork says it's only for the Cowboy Die.

Thanks guys, it was just a shot in the dark...
