This weapon could be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

The thieves will be looking for bolt parts to include: Extractor, extractor spring & roller bearings. Possibly more M-60 parts.

There are at least 2 REWARDS available for this gun so far and may be more later.

I am including a picture of a similar gun for recognition.

Specifically this is a *Rock Island Armory (RIA) M-60, Belt Fed Machine Gun chambered in .308. Serial # 10541.*

Bah. It would be terrible if the criminal stole any "normal" gun, but stealing a machinegun? That's a whole hell of a lot worse.

Hopefully this bad guy gets caught and the machinegun recovered. Fortunately, the ATF is probably allocating quite a bit of resources in retreiving this machinegun. I hope that if the M60's found the law enforcement authorities confiscating it don't damage it (i.e. electro-penciling an evidence number, etc.), just like I hope the criminals themselves don't destroy any key parts like the receiver or sear.

That online parts places like Sarco, Gun Parts Corporation, and International Military Antiques have been notified, correct? Bad juju, regardless. :(
 
I'm going to take the opposing viewpoint and propose that stealing a registered and remarkable M-60 is akin to stealing a famous work of art, or a large diamond. They would either be too stupid to realize they couldn't sell it, or smart enough to have a plan including the disposal.
 
Not much they can do without the links anyway. I work with the 60 on a dialy basis and i know how finiky they can be if certain parts are overlooked or negleted. It's not as user friendly as some of the other weapons. I highly doubt they could keep one working for too long.
 
Probably due to the market value alone. What's one cost nowadays? Over 10K?
 
A gun like that in the wrong hands can do a lot of damage to lawabiding gun owners. I hope it turns up without any collateral damages.
 
What kind of IRRESPONSIBLE dipsh#@ would leave a M-60 machinegun in a car at a motel overnight? I am as hardcore gun rights as they come but we also have a serious responsibility to safekeep our weapons. This idiot really blew it and god forbid somebody get killed with this weapon. We will be seeing this one on the "Nightly News"!
