I have a Remington 870 Magnum Turkey Express. The rear sight ramp is built into the barrel, and the dove tail on the ramp is 5/16. The fiber optics in the rear sight popped out on one side. I got it back in and applied a little super glue. It should get me through my turkey season. But, I want to replace the sight, and I'm not having any luck in finding a match. Only the front sight of the true glow works. On the Williams Slugger Universal Fire Sight, it looks like I may be able to use the sight minus the ramp. Does anyone have any experience with this or know where I can buy a replacement?

Thanks for your help.

I've never seen a turkey barrel with a rear sight.

They made some rifle sighted short barreled guns with threaded barrels that were designed for slugs. But would accept a turkey tube. My brother has one and it makes for a very versatile gun.

I have the turkey barrel which also takes interchangeable tubes, but mine only has a bead front sight. I also have a rifle sighted barrel, but mine is choked IC and will not accept choke tubes.

A photo would help. It almost sounds like someone added an aftermarket sight.

Not an after market. I bought it brand new. The rear sight is like a rifle sight. I'll post some photos later.

I purchased one of those barrels brand new in the late 1980's or so. It was a full choke, and was made before screw-in chokes became the norm. Back then my 870 slug gun did double duty as a turkey gun in the spring. Sold it a couple years ago because I have had a dedicated Mossberg 500 turkey gun for 20 years now and I wasn't using it. If it were still here I'd take a picture and post it. Not sure what would be a suitable replacement rear sight on that barrel.

I did call Williams Sights. I thought they might have something that works. But the dovetail on their sights is 17/64s and will not work. Others have tried. He was not optimistic on me finding something that works stating that a lot of folks were looking for the same thing. The original sight is just a bit of cheap plastic. I do plan on calling TruGlo.

For those of you that might be faced with or are facing the same issue, here is what I had to do. I could not find a rear sight that worked on my existing sight slide. I tried to find a new rear sight slide that would fit the newer sight. Everyone everywhere was sold out. Midway noted it as discontinued. Ebay didn't even have it listed. Just my luck. I even looked at Brownells for a new barrel. All were unavailable. Last night I looked at the rear sight assembly on my Remington 30.06 7600. The sight slide on that rifle sight should work on my 870 shotgun. So, I went to Numrich and located an entire rear sight assembly for an 870 shotgun. They had several different variations. The sight slide on that assembly is the newer version. I can either use the sight slide as is with its existing non-fiber optic sight or take the sight off of the slide and use the new TruGlo rear sight that I bought to replace my broken one. I'll just save the elevation ramp since its built into the barrel anyway and the old sight slide. Why, I don't know. Just how I roll. Save everything becasue you never know. I think the issue is solved, but what a PITA. Not one company that I could locate makes a direct replacement. I use Numrich and Sarco to get parts for my 03s and Krags, not for a 20 year old shotgun.

Glad to hear the problem may be solved and thanks for the update. I still have the smoothbore slug barrel that came on my 12 ga. 870 "Special Purpose Deer" model that was made circa 1987,(switched to a fully rifled barrel 22 years ago). IIRC (?), Remington called it a "rifle sight"; does it look anything like this ?... IMG_1771.JPG ........I know there was some common parts used between 870's and 7600's. If the rear sight is one of them; then you may be in luck. Glad I already have pictures of most of my stuff here on the computer. Here's another shot of it.... IMG_1770.JPG .. & the front sight they used... IMG_1772.JPG ..

Rem, that's the one. The Turkey Magnum Express came with fiber optic sights. The sight slide is different. The sight slides into dovetails in the front and back of the sight. The sight slide on my 7600 is just like your photo. So, if you're able to change out the slide, you're golden and there are plenty of aftermarket sights available.

Entropy. No it's not. The original sight slide is not as Rem pictured. The sight slide I purchased from Numrich with the assembly has the one in Rem's pictures. The original sight slide on my shotgun is different. The one I purchased from Numrich will accept the sight you tried to give as an example.

Just wanted to avoid any confusion. Thanks.

Here is the old sight.
