and wild boar as well as the 180 gr bullet in my Blackhawk and have killed many of each with those. Most of my kills with deer has been about 35 -50 yards and wild boar a little farther.
I use a 180 gr. WFNGC (with AA9) @ 1250 fps +- in my Ruger and a 6" m. 27.
That is the accuracy load for those two revolvers. Enough penetration for hogs, "overkill" on penetration for Whitetail; an XTP would be hard to beat for deer.
The 180 gr. WFNGC load is not a "dead right there" load for deer (unless spine shot). Expect some trailing.
cast performance 180gr wfngc. there's a silhouette section in the speer #14 manual, p. 900. should help with powder selection. i use bdot just under the minimum load listed. they crony out of my bh about 1200fps (4 5/8 bbl). should fit the cylinder. the gas check should prevent leading.
There are others like Cor-Bon, Buffalo Bore and offerings from Federal, Remington and Winchester to name a few. I've used the 4 I posted links to above and all will work fine in your Ruger or in a Carbine.
I no longer buy ammo for hunting but I do handload the Hornady 140gr FTX, Hornady 180gr XTP and Cast Performance 180gr WFNGC Hard Cast bullets for the .357 Magnum as well as a few others like a 158gr Nosler and 150gr & 170gr Sierra bullets.
