A bit off for a BP board, but there is speculation about the forth coming 1955R Pietta .357 clone of the Colt Python.

Much is being said as to Pietta not having the ability to meat the around $800 MSRP with anything approaching worthwhile quality.

What say yea used of recent Pietta BP revolvers, both front stuffing and cartridge?

Can the "Pythietta" (Hey, I thought combining Python and Pietta would be neat) be a good thing at a reasonable price or will I have to wait until fall to read what folks with hands on have to say?

....and we all know .357 can be loaded with BP.....

I bought a Pietta BP 44 Remington a few weeks ago from Cabelas. The first one I got in the mail, opened it, cocked and decocked it a few times (no dry fire) and the trigger felt good. Then the mainspring broke.

They replaced the revolver and the quality is pretty good for what I paid for it. The hammer makes contact along one side when fired, but the trigger and firing mechanism have smoothed out to a nice trigger pull. The cylinder gap is very tight, which I am impressed with. I think, for the price point, it is well manufactured.

dbmjr1, I regret to inform you that, that's not a Pietta, and it's not recent. At least not this millennium. Most likely form the '70s. However it doesn't look too bad for what it is.

Fired the new Pietta SA I have here today.
It's a new model, octagon barrel, dipped hammer, 1860 Army grip.
Otherwise, .357 Colt clone.

Fit & finish is good, they did take a shortcut in not beveling the upper outside edges of the triggerguard/gripframe.
That was not particularly comfortable under full .357 recoil & should have been beveled instead of left squared.

Sights are wide & visible, centered for windage, shot slightly low at 25 yards.

Grips reasonably well fitted, steel slightly proud.
Trigger could be smoother.
Decently accurate.

Overall not bad.
