reciever / optical sights for vepr

Any of you folks know of a reciever cover mounted peep sight for the vepr? My old valmet had a setup like that and I really liked it. Seems the vepr would do way better with a better sight system.
Also, do you have a favorite optical system? I was wondering about the ultimak forward mount with an eotech , or perhaps one of the side mount russian systems. My eyes are old and the best I can do is about 4"to 6" at 100 yds with the iron sights. Thanks, I'd appreciate any input.

1. Ditto on the search. If you don't find your answers, just ask again. No biggie.

2. I dunno about any dustcover mounted sight for the Vepr offhand, but I bet it got mentioned in one of those threads if there is one. Krebs does a dustcover/sight combo for AKs, but I don't know if it will fit a Vepr, or if they make a model for the Vepr.

3. I'm currently in the purchasing/procurement process of putting an Ultimak rail on a Vepr and plopping an Aimpoint atop it. That would probably aid tired eyes in shooting accurately, but it is probably pricier than a simple dustcover sight.

Also, I'm kind of a novice with optics, so I can't answer your last question from experience. However, from what I've read, the russian side-rail adaptors, while rock solid and having excellent return-to-zero properties, tend to make optics sit very high above the weapon. Some people are bothered by this, some aren't. I imagine that if you used some sort of cheekweld adaptor it would not matter all that much.

If you DO manage to find a rear peep (AR15-type) for your dustcover, then may I suggest that you could replace your existing AK rear sight with one of these:

I just stumbled across them accidentally the other day, and they look VERY similar to what AK103K has on his VERY cool AK.

They offer scout scopes for both the AK47 and SKS type rifles, and may be an inexpensive yet effective alternative to the Ultimak.

Do a search under my name and with Krebs as the subject. I have some Krebs receiver sights on my Vepr and posted a pretty long review on them here. I really like the Krebs sights. Problem is that they quit selling them.

I like the PSO series scope, or the Kobra or something. Look at Tantal's stuff for a good idea of what might work (and is genuinely Russian in nature). Good service, too. He's got scopes, red-dots, etc, so I'm sure you'll find something to suit your rifle (and maybe something to suit a few others, as well ).
