I was testing out my newly modified Stoeger coach gun 12 gauge yesterday with some 0 buckshot. I noticed on the box that it held 13 .32 caliber spheres. Compared to a 00 buckshot's 9 .36 caliber spheres, physics would tell me that the 0 buckshot would have more kick to it than 00 buckshot.

Is this the truth? Or do I have any of my figures wrong? I've only shot bird shot, 0 buckshot, and slugs from the gun.

It's not the number of pellets, it's the WEIGHT.
1 ounce is 1 ounce. It doesn't matter if it's #9 birdshot or a solid slug.

yeah, powder can make a difference, but apples vs. apples it is the weight of the load that makes the difference.

The weight wasn't given on that load, just the shell dimentions, caliber of pellets, number of pellets, and gauge. But wouldn't 13 .32 caliber spheres weigh more than 9 .36 caliber spheres?

I did a little bit of calculating, and I found that the exact spherical volume of the 0 buckshot load of 13 .32 caliber pellets was 1.04 inches. The 00 buckshot load was 0.91 inches. This means that make a sphere out of the pellets of each load, and the 00 loading will be slightly smaller than the 0 load.
