I have an old (70's) Rem 1100 that had the plastic butt plate on it. I decided to put a good recoil pad on it. I sanded the concave butt flat on my disc sander using the right side of the stock as a guide (in other words it is square to the right side of the stock). When I put my square on the left side it is off quite a bit. Really doesn't look too bad but you can tell the butt is not quite straight when you look closely. If I sand it to look straight, neither side will "square up". Is my stock possibly warped? Any thoughts on this from the smiths out there?

The stock sides aren't parallel if that's the assumption you're going by. the buttstock is shaped like a wedge with the wide part to the rear.

You need to make yourself an angle jig to hold the stock centerline parallel to the saw blade or sander disk.

Just a rectangle chunk of plywood for a base, and band sawed cradles for the butt and wrest sections. The butt cradle can be as low as possible to the plywood base.

The wrest cradle raised high enough to make the cut square with the centerline of the stock.

Did it and it all looks straight now. Thx to all.

I'm not much of a shotgunner so learn something every day
