Does anyone have a relatively recent edition of this book? Is it any good?

my wife gave me the 5th edittion of combat handgunnery by Massad Ayoob, as an early christmas present, and i haven't put it down yet, well to get on here that is about it! it is packed full of good info for any and all gun lovers, i can't remember where she got it from but it wasn't very much at all, but it is well worth the money that was spent on it.

Hartink's book look much like compiled catalogs rather than books - at least for me. Lots of pics (of average quality) and minimum of information.

I'd suggest looking at used books, and to search for Ezell's "handguns of the world" (THE book on pre-1945 pistols), or for Hatcher's Notebook (totns of interesting and useful info)

Also, if you're interested in assault rifles, i can humbly recommend this book

I concur with Ezell's books, both Handguns of the World and Rifles of the World.

Hatcher's Notebook is great, as is Hatcher's Book of the Garand.

I recently bought Patrick Sweeney's book on Pistolsmithing. Really quite good.

Bianchi put out a book Blue Steel and Gunleather that is very informative on hoster design over the years. I thought it would be a sales pitch, and it is really quite interesting.

Any book by George Nonte is a winner, although they are out of print. Amazon sells them "used and new from".

Shots Fired in Anger is awesome, but also another out of print book.

If I think of more during dinner I'll edit this or add another reply.

Although not exactly a "gun" book, 'Gunshot Wounds, Practical Aspect of Firearms, Ballistics, and Forensic Techniques' by Vincent J.M. Di Maio, might be an interesting addition to your library.

Not sure about current printing status.

Anything by him is great.
'Sixguns' is the volume on revolvers.
I don't think anything of his is currently in print, but his stuff is available through any second hand store.

Old-time basics and a smart, careful attitude. Not the most contemporary material, but the material in it never goes out of "style." Great book, if you're into those little bitty parts, or wood!

I took a look at Handguns 2007 the other day. It looks pretty good.

Gun Digest is usually worth buying too, although I usually buy late--after the price drops.
