Would someone give me some recommendations to nice night sights for my G19. I'd like to get some input as to quality, price, brightness and ease of installation.

Are switching sights on the Glocks something that should be left for the gunsmith or can any newbie idiot do it :banghead:

Thanks

PS..what is the difference between the fiber optics I see advertised and the tritium?

I have a Mepro sight on mine. It is not very bright any more (after 4 years, well I thought it used to be brighter), but usable.

You can change your own sight. The front sight is easy to change. The rear sight is a bit more complicate, if you don't have a tool.

I have Mepros on my Glock. They seem to shoot just a tad low compared to the Trijicons or the night sights available from Glock. As far as quality, they appear to be the same. Even the construction looks identical.
Mepros are supposed to be brighter than Trijicons, but I've never compared the two side x side.

I have trijicons on my G27 and they work awesome. I bought the entire unit used so I have no idea how old they are but I was told about a year. They are 2 1/2 years old now and still shining bright. When I worked at Nosler I found out that both companies do refills on their sights for about half the price of purchasing new ones.

I have to agree on the Heinie's. I did some looking before buying, and I now have a set on either Glock.

Night sights may be nught sights but do you intend to practice a lot with the same pistol in daylight? If so some consideration should be made for those sights with better, crisper sight pictures, etc. Trij. fronts are extremely wide and the post is not sharply defined like Novak's or Heinie's.

Install can be easy but you really do need a bench vise and nylon punch/rod to tap them in.
Front's can be a problem on Glocks as have seen many with out of spec. oval holes requiring the sights oval post to be file fit with a suiably fine file. You really need to degrease the screw and threads in the sight properly and then only use your choice of red or blue loctite in the smallest amount, i.e. what will collect on the tip if a pin or needle. Doesn't take much. All steel sights like Heinie or Novak's often require file fitting of the rear. Whatever you do don't beat the rear in! At least around this neck of the woods if you pay retail for the sights the Shops install them for free, FWIW.
