My newly acquired adjustable sight ROA will not fit in the slim jim holsters I use for cowboy action shooting. I would like to carry it while deer hunting.

The original Ruger flap holsters are classy and show up on Gunbroker periodically, but I don't know if they will accommodate a 7.5 inch ROA. Are they the best choice? I think I could be comfortable with a shoulder rig as well as one on my hip.

I would appreciate learning from your experience.

Do folks generally like the holster flap versus open holster? With a purdy ROA I think I'd prefer an open holster but maybe I'm missing something with regard to walking through the woods with a holstered ROA.

The flap holster has it's place as do the open tops. It depends on your intended use and personal preference. I ride horse back in the mountains a lot, and for that application I like the full flap holster. When I walk the back country I generally prefer an open top. There is really no wrong answer. Get and use what you like.

BTW, thanks arcticap, I try.

Here's a photo of my adjustable sight Old Army in its Hunter's Slim Jim. You should be able to find one suitable. I've spotted several and we don't have a lot of places to shop up here. Google Hunter's Leather.

As a fellow horseman I appreciate your point. I've never ridden with a firearm thus my ignorance on the topic. My horses would throw me on the ground and dance on my head if I ever fired a firearm while mounted. I really appreciate all those horses in the cowboy movies where there's shootin' going on.
