Recovered Stolen Firearm.

I had a G19 stolen 10 years ago last October. It was recovered one month later in the next county to the south. LE were pulling over a car with known drug dealers when it was thrown out the window and later found by LE. I have a pretty good idea who stole it, then sold or traded it for drugs. The guys in possession of the gun didn't steal it. That is probably the case with the OP's pistol too.

The DA wouldn't release the gun until after the trial, which kept being postponed. They even sent my gun to the crime lab in Atlanta for ballistics testing in case it had been used in another crime. After 8 years the drug dealers decided to plead guilty with no trial. I got it back 2 years ago. It was in a sealed evidence box, with the mag and 13 rounds of ammo in a zip lock bag.

The gun itself wasn't hurt, but LE tried to engrave the case # onto the slide it is on the mag with a Sharpie,. I've read that Glock uses a pretty tough coating and this proves it. You have to hold the slide just right under a bright light to barely make out the numbers. I didn't even notice this until after I'd had it for a while.

I don't ever plan to sell it. I think the history is interesting. I kept the evidence box along with all of the documentation. One of my grandkids may find it interesting.

Well S&W confirmed that theft isn’t covered under warranty lol. So the cheapest way to fix the gun will be me buying FO myself. Worth a shot.

Kansas Trapper, couple thoughts. Goo Gone, or WD40, often does a great job removing sticky junk.
I'm not really familiar with that model; is it a 'chassis' gun, inside a poly shell? Unlike SIGs, which are meant for easy swaps, drifting out some roll pins might let you swap out the poly shell. Ask S&W.
Great story on the gun.
I had a star crossed S&W 645. Managed to ring the barrel with a squib load; replaced the barrel, and traded it. It was stolen from the gunshop, twice, pitched in the river at least once. I'm not sure if it was recovered the second time.
