Recreational Shooting at Camp Pendleton CA (or near Oceanside)?

Greetings,
I'm out at UCLA for the summer, and looking to go out and do some plinking with my cousins who live down in Oceanside. I know that there's a civilian shooting range just north of downtown, but would prefer to shoot outdoors where there's less noise, and I can use reactive targets.

I was thinking that we could take a roadtrip up to the BLM lands in Palomar (maybe an hour's drive away?) and go plink, but was wondering if there's anything a bit closer.

I'm USMC IRR (inactive reserve), and my cousins are dependents of USR-Ret, so we'd have no problem getting on base, but is there any recreational range aboard Pendleton that we can use? Any special requirements? Would I need to register the firearms with PMO first, or just declare at the gate and get some temporary pass? Can shooters under 18 shoot with my supervision?

If anyone has any other options, either outdoor private range with daily rates for non-members, or any public land closer than Palomar, it'd be good to hear it. Thanks,

-MV

The info is not necessarily perfectly accurate; call the places to be sure, because prices and policies change over time and the webmaster can't keep up with all of it. Some "members only" ranges might allow non-members, for example.

Palomar Divide sucks. Lousy access, few backstops, too many steep slopes, too much brush. Don't bother driving an hour to get there. Go to Orosco Ridge. Call first, though, to get the gate combo and to see if it's open. Bring a 4x4 if you have one, and a high-clearance vehicle otherwise.

I don't know about on-base.

If you can make it out to Jacumba, that's the best spot, but it's not exactly adjacent to Oceanside.:)

There are some unofficial places, and BLM areas, but between McMansions, agriculture, parks and private property, open shooting can be somewhat limited until you get far enough out.
