Hey everyone, an hour from this posting, at 2200 EST Red Dawn will be on AMC. Figured I would share if anyone else wants to watch.

We don't get AMC. Actually, we get 3 channels with the wire hanger sticking out of the back of our TV. 4 channels if there is a storm coming.

I can't say I liked it. Terrible movie.

This movie's popularity seems to be surging. Fascinating. I thought it was OK, but not something I'd watch over and over. When it first came out, it pretty much passed through movie theaters unnoticed (this was during the 2-3 years where Swayze's carreer was actually going somewhere).

I don't own it on DVD either. Occasionally, I'll watch a bit of it until something better comes on, but that's it.

My favorite scene in the movie is the scene where Swayze can't bring himself to shot his friend, then another of his group steps up and shots him. The next scene when Swayze is crying, look for the giant snot bubble eminating from his nose. Great acting.

I have it saved on the Tivo from the last time it was on AMC. Fun movie! Makes me proud to live in the midwest and own an AK style rifle.

Quality of the movie aside, did we really need a post to tell us when a movie is being shown on TV? I mean..isn't that what TV guide is for?

Not trying to be a jerk, but it seems like a low signal/noise type of post.

Well, I get AMC but I guess I don't need either a internet post or the TV guide -- I have the collector's edition DVD with the DVD of extras on it.
The premise of the movie is fairly unrealistic, but still it does show some important lessons on liberty and war's futility.

You know, i thought this was going to be a "What would you do if Red Dawn happened today" sort of post. I was going to say that i'd have to run and hide until the russkie's (or whatever group) left, because I am currently without a gun :O

One of the better "Feel Good" movies from the '80's.

Owning a copy is kinda like a gunnie right of passage. (plus knowing the words to Roland, the Headless Thompson Gunner and being able to recite Ash's "This is my Boomstick" soliloquy from Army of Darkness.)

If you hate Karakoe and are forced to get up and sing; Do Roland, loudly, with a beer mug in one hand :neener:

Lawyers, Guns and Money works pretty good also.......

Premise

The premise of the movie is fairly unrealistic . . .
Yeah.

I used to think so.

Now, with our good friend Hugo cozying up with Cuba and other ne'er-do-well nations, coupled with our complete insistence on leaving the borders open, renders variations on that theme kind of "more plausible" than I like.

The outcome might be way different, but the fundamental "here's how to invade the U.S." theme has enough merit that it could serve as the foundation for someone's playbook.

Maybe it would fail horribly. That doesn't mean there's not some megalomaniacal power-happy nutjob out there with the idea that "hey, maybe, with a little help from my friends, I could pull this off."

We also have the added dimension of portable nukes to fold into the scenario.

Maybe it is unrealistic.

Doesn't mean someone won't try.

Some Red Dawn trivia.:)

My friend was the jump consultant and is one of the "enemy" paratroopers.
The jumpers were blown all over the place.

The helicopters are Pumas from my company, Petroleum Helicopters Inc., flown by PHI pilots.

Later, back in the Gulf of Mexico, one of the Pumas crashed while landing on a offshore drilling rig killing 18 passengers and one pilot.

Another one lost the transmission and crashed in the water. I don't remember the body count.

HMMM, Red Dawn or Sopranos? I chose Red Dawn, the Sopranos are replayed on Mondays;)

Red Dawn was an ok movie, it's better then watching Purple Rain any day!!

If we're gonna get technical why not point out some of the errors in some of these movies? I'll start with Braveheart, the scenes where they're running out to their first battle and you see Mel Gibson running with his sword then they cut over to the other army and back and his sword is still on his back then next scene it's out again... funny ;)

And The Thread Veers Into The Ditch

Don't feel bad.

We almost made it through an entire page before the thread derailed.

Oh, and thanks, M2, those are some cool pics.
