I plan on getting the rear hand guard that is a rail from fulton armory.
I want to add a red dot sight to it.
Is there a red dot for under 200 dollars that will hold up to the pounding a garand will give it?

Many of the sub $200 red dots will do, but consider a scout scope.

The .30-06 has alot to offer beyond red dot range.

what is the effective range of a red dot?
what is effective range of a scout scope?

Opinions will vary, but many people say they have trouble hitting man sized targets beyond 200 yards with a red dot, depending on the conditions and the shooter. A scout scope in a fixed 4x or 2x-7x would allow you to hit targets beyond 500 yards, again depending on the conditions and the shooter. The .30-06 cartridge is quite capable well beyond 500 yards.

But; if you are hunting in a wooded area with short range shooting lanes, or a similar circumstance, a red dot will serve you well.

ETA,

I have experimented with a few sight options on my M1; I am currently using a NM front sight, with a hooded rear drilled out to .100"

Its reasonably fast, I find the front precise, and I like the hooded rear.

Here's what I did with mine. Aimpoint has discontinued this particular model, but I found a NIB one on the shelf at my local g.s. it's a CompC3 1moa 2x.
You can hit whatever you can see and the 2x helps you pick out things at distance better than a 1x red dot.
It looks big and bulky but it's light for it's size. I went with a red dot after experiencing a situation where the dim lighting and shadow cast over the front sight kept me from bagging a nice doe last season, this red dot will alleviate that problem and no need to line up the sights anymore.
Aimpoints are expensive, but I don't have the patience to deal with lesser quality optics, so I bit the bullet and bought the best.
