Are there any red dot sights out there that use ambient light to create the red dots? I know nothing of these sights but thought it would be a good idea. The reason I asked is that I just got a Ruger Charger and wanted to put a good sight on it. Everyone says I should get a red dot.

What about it? Are there red dot sights without batteries and are these sights the best for the Chargers?

Fiber optic sights would be your best option then, no batteries to fail on you.

The Trijicon reflex is a good example, and is probably what you're looking for, but it'll be a bit expensive. Technically its not a red dot as a red dot projects a LED light source on a lens so I doubt you'll be able to find one that doesn't use batteries. Aimpoint makes some red dots that have battery life measured in years, so you may want to look at some of their offerings. They have some really nice small red dots.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm surprised by the number of sights available and the prices. Are the lower priced sights worthwhile? I was surprised to find many of the red dots to be five hundred bucks or so. Geesh! Perhaps I'll try conventional optical sights. What do you think?

I think you should tell us what you intend to use the Charger for?

A red-dot is great for fast, close range action.

Totally worthless on a 150 yard varmint pistol

how about fiber optic sights
they will glow under light so it could be a cheaper red dot
