Mod's, I know this isn't specifically gun related, but I wanted to share. I will be wearing red on Fridays from now on and I encourage all of the THR members to do so as well. Sorry if this has already been posted:

Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing
Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support
our troops used to be called the "silent majority." We
are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for
God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We
are not organized, boisterous, or overbearing.

Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends,
simply want to recognize that the vast majority of
America supports our troops. Our idea of showing
solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and
respect starts this Friday -- and continues each and
every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a
deafening message that ... every red-blooded American
who supports our men and women afar, will wear
something red.

By word of mouth, press, TV -- let's make the United
States on every Friday a sea of red much like a
homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every
one of us who loves this country will share this with
acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will
not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it
will let our troops know the once "silent" majority is
on their side more than ever, certainly more than the
media lets on.

The first thing a soldier says when asked "What can
we do to make things better for you?" is ..."We need
your support and your prayers." Let's get the word out
and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear
something red every Friday.

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!!

Sorry, I don't own anything red. Just about everything I have is some shade of blue, gray, or green.

Call me paranoid but it's part of my self-defense strategy to dress in a manner that does not attract undue attention.

Ergo, I don't wear any bright colors.

How about taking the money

and donating it to some charity that benefits soldiers.

BTW, did a liberal trekkie come up with this? A red shirt is for the disposable character who will be killed in an episode, a walking dead man. It's also used by authors who kill off friends, enemies and fans in thier books and is called 'red shirting'.

Yea and when some people started this I had to wonder - how does wearing a red shirt support anyone? Democrats and hippies who will 'bring the boys home' say they support the troops as well. I think it's a trite phrase that no longer has meaning. I kind of lose respect for people who say it and expect a medal for it.

Maybe people should iterate whether they agree with the military mission or not, to be clear. But that would be too intelligible, and people could decipher your position if you said that:)

As well, technically people who say they 'support' this or that, but provide no aid whatsoever, are full of crap. I can say I support firearms rights, but until Christmas comes and the money I've saved for that cause gets sent to them, I'm just a windbag paying lipservice. (except for writing letters)

Last time this was posted, it got closed down:

So you're saying "beware the Preacherman"?:)

I'm not suggesting that you go out and buy a red shirt, and I don't think the originator of the idea was either. If you wear a red shirt sometime in the week, why not plan to wear it on Fridays?

As to whether or not this "supports the troops" or not, this will certainly not make or break "troop support". For me, it's just an outward sign of other means of support: inner feelings, prayers, votes for good politicians (if there is such a thing:neener: ), etc. As a veteran myself, I will proudly being wearing a red shirt tomorrow.

FWIW,

java

And anyone who's ever seen StarTrek knows that anyone who beams down to the planet wearing a red shirt won't be coming back. :neener:
